The Australian Council of Graduate Research (ACGR)
The Australian Council of Graduate Research (ACGR) is a not-for-profit forum of university representatives engaged in the leadership and management of graduate research and Higher Degree by Research (HDR) programs. Typically, representatives hold positions such as Dean, Director of Graduate Research, or equivalent.
The purpose of the Council is to promote excellence in research training and scholarship and to seek to maintain and continually improve national standards for all graduate research degree programs.
The Council provides Graduate School Deans, Directors, and industry partners with an opportunity to share ideas, exchange professional development resources, and network. ACGR convenes biannually to discuss national agenda issues in research training and share best practice.

The Australasian Research Training Network (ARTN)
The ARTN is part of Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS) and aligns with and supports the mission of the Australian Council of Graduate Research (ACGR). The ARTN is overseen by the ARTN Advisory Group, which comprises of nominated members from a diversity of institutions and locations, and is affiliated with the Directors of Higher Degree Research Special Interest Group.
The functions of the ARTN are to:
- Provide a forum for discussion of research training issues and the administration of research training throughout Australasia.
- Provide opportunities for professional development, networking and peer support;
- Support for the coordination of regional and international conferences relevant to the needs of its members;
- Provide an avenue for the publication and distribution of relevant professional material including occasional papers;
- Participate in appropriate local and regional activities; and
- Make recommendations for strategies that support the operation of research training administration.
